Jim Kelly is a mixed-media artist whose work explores the edges and intersections of painting and photography. The mostly abstract pieces reflect his interest in combining the two media - photographic information with the immediacy and intensity of paint. The recorded surface of the photo is infused with color and form, creating tensions between the various elements and layers.
Jim worked as a commercial photographer with studios in Boston for over twenty years, and now has studios in Portland, Maine and Sarasota, Florida. His work has been exhibited throughout New England and included in shows at the Fitchburg Museum, the Currier Museum of Art, Merrimack College and The University of New England. Jim showed regularly at the Atlantic Gallery in NYC during the 1990's and has shown at the Barn Gallery in Ogunquit, Maine for the past fifteen years. His work can be found in numerous private and public collections.
